Welcome to Our Farm!

Hello! My Name is Janelle.

I’m the Farmer here at Squared Away Acres.

We're located in Lawrence, Kansas, on land that has been in my husband's family for over 100 years. I was born and raised in Western Michigan in a small town called Lowell, but Kansas has become home since I met my husband online back in 2001. We have three sons who help when asked, but mostly leave the farm work to me, and I wouldn't have it any other way!

It All Begins with Bees

We started raising bees in 2017, and it's been one of the most rewarding relationships of my life. The bees and I have a beautiful symbiotic relationship. I take their extra honey, and in turn, I keep them free of varroa mites and other risks. Every jar of honey you taste comes directly from our hives, carrying the essence of Kansas wildflowers.

Adding Idaho Pasture Pigs

In 2020, I learned about a breed of pig called Idaho Pasture Pigs and was intrigued from the get-go. After researching, I found a wonderful family selling them nearby, and we added Frank and Betty in October 2020.

We farrow to finish our pigs on pasture in the fresh air, and they help create the beautiful soap you'll find in our collection.

I really love this breed of pig. They're great for first-timers and perfect for someone looking to raise gentle hogs.

If you’re a farmer in the market for some wonderful pigs, let’s talk!

Handcrafted Soaps

Each bar of soap is unique, crafted using traditional soap-making methods with natural ingredients and no harsh chemicals.

Made from local honey from our own hives and rendered fat from our pasture-raised Idaho Pasture Pigs, these soaps are perfect for sensitive skin and bring a touch of farm-fresh luxury to your daily routine.

Beeswax Candles

Our handmade candles combine rustic charm and luxurious sparkle, creating a beautiful ambiance for any space.

Made from beeswax created right here on our farm, each candle is poured by hand with wooden wicks that crackle softly as they burn, enhancing the mesmerizing glow.

Farm Fresh Local Foods

Always available for pickup at our farm or at Lawrence Farmers Market on Saturday mornings, our seasonal offerings include pure wildflower honey straight from our hives, pasture-raised pork from pigs that live their best life on our family land, and fresh sourdough breads made with love.

  • The candles make the house smell wonderful even when they’re not lit! Janelle and Squared Away Acres create such high-quality products, and I can’t recommend them enough!

  • Janelle is the best! I use all her products! Soap in place of shaving cream….FABULOUS. I give the honey to my dogs to help with seasonal allergies…and maintain my generous hips with the honey focaccia bread 🥰!

  • The candles, the aromas, all of it brightens my day, knowing where the products came from and the energy and time that went into making them.

  • This is one of the best soap products I have purchased. The variety of soap is excellent.

Growing Our Community

In late October 2023, I joined the Lawrence Farmers Market as a vendor, selling honey, soap, sourdough bread, beeswax candles, and even compost worms (every house should have some!). 2024 was my first full year as a vendor, and I met so many amazing folks in Lawrence. I love community building and can't wait to meet you at the Market!

Visit our booth Saturday Mornings from 7:30-11:30 am in downtown Lawrence at 824 New Hampshire Street. We’re there April through November.

What Matters Most to Us

  • Transparency in Everything We Do

You can visit the farm and meet the animals that help create your favorite products. We believe in knowing your farmer by name and understanding exactly where your goods come from.

  • Quality Over Quantity

Every product I make comes from my hands, my animals, my bees, and my soil. We use traditional methods, natural ingredients, and take the time needed to create something truly special.

  • Sustainable Practices

Our farming practices focus on the health and happiness of our animals, the wellbeing of our bees, and the stewardship of land that's been in our family for generations.
