Welcome

2026 marks our third year of officially being in business, but Squared Away Acres really began back in 2017 when we started keeping bees here in Lawrence, Kansas. In those early years, we had more honey than I ever imagined I could sell. What I learned quickly was that Lawrence residents truly love their local honey straight from the farmer. Since then, I’ve expanded our beehives and hope to keep up with demand at the Saturday Farmers Market.

In 2020, we added Idaho Pasture Pigs to our small farm. We shared our pork with friends and family, who enthusiastically supported my newfound obsession with pigs and encouraged us to keep growing.

Then, in 2023, everything changed. I experienced a shocking, near-death event caused by an abdominal aneurysm. I was life-flighted from Lawrence Memorial and spent a week in the ICU at KU Med. In the weeks that followed, as I slowly regained my strength, I spent a lot of time reflecting on my life and what I wanted to achieve. It became clear that it was time to officially start our farm business.

I had no idea what I was doing, but I took it one step at a time.

Today, we’re sitting inside while snow covers the yard, the trees, and my sleeping garden. I’m making plans for 2026, preparing for another season of farming, and I can’t wait for spring.
