SQUARED AWAY ACRES
Farming honey and Idaho Pasture Pigs
Welcome! My name is Janelle and I am the farmer here at Squared Away Acres. We are located in Lawrence Kansas. I was born and raised in Western Michigan in a small town called Lowell. I met my husband online in 2001. He and his whole family have roots in LFK since early 1900's. The land we live on has b1een in his family for 100+ years. We have 3 sons who help when asked but mostly leave the farm work to me. We started raising bees in 2017. I was scared but loved them from the start. The bees and I have a symbiotic relationship. I take their extra honey and in turn I keep them free of varroa mites and other risks. In 2020 I learned about a breed of pig called Idaho Pasture Pigs. I was intrigued from the get go. I researched and found a nice family selling them near by. We added Frank and Betty and in October of 2023 we will process our first hogs we farrowed here on the farm. I really love this breed of pig. They are great for first timers and someone looking to raise a gentle hog. Thanks for checking us out.
The Idaho Pasture pig is a breed of pig that is well-suited to outdoor living and foraging. These pigs are raised on a diet of grass, roots, and other foraged items, which results in meat that is flavorful and rich in nutrients. Grains are essential to maximize their growth potential. They excel in converting small amounts of grains to growth.
